Rights activist attacked in Tashkent Region
Uznews.net – An unidentified man attacked Tashkent Region-based human rights activist Dmitriy Tikhonov on 17 December and seriously injured his leg. His colleagues believe this attack is the authorities’ revenge for his participation in a rally in Tashkent’s Mustakillik Square on 6 December.

Human rights activist Vladimir Husainov said that the attack had been conducted outside Tikhonov’s home in Angren. The unidentified man approached the activist from behind and hit his leg with a metal stick.

Tikhonov sought assistance advised that the activist should report the incident to the police. However, fearing regular summons to the police, the activist persuaded the doctor not to treat his wound and not to report the incident to the police.

For taking part in the rally in Tashkent on 6 December, Tikhonov was sentenced to a fine worth 3.5 million sums (some $1,500).

Vladimir Husainov suggested that the attack on Tikhonov was the authorities’ revenge for his participation in the rally.

This is not the first time Tikhonov was attacked in his hometown. In February, he was assailed in his garage and received a serious head injury. An investigation into this crime has produced no results.
