The government of Uzbekistan this year decided to allow the Russian state corporation “Rosatom”  to build a nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan very close to Kazakhstan.

Nuclear power is an outdated technology in which catastrophic accidents can occur, leading to radioactive contamination of the terrain for a very long time.

Unfortunately, no public hearings and discussions were held in Uzbekistan about the feasibility of building a nuclear power plant in the country.

Residents of Kazakhstan already have a tragic experience of the impact of atomic radiation on the population and nature during nuclear explosions at the Semipalatinsk test site.

I urge the civil society of Kazakhstan to pay serious attention to the possible dangerous consequences of the operation of this nuclear power plant!
