Mr. Makhamadsoli Ismailov, the editor-in-chief of the Uzbek-language newspaper Osh Sadosi, funded by Osh Regional Council, was released from a temporary detention facility under the condition of remaining in his domicile. He was arrested last Sunday based on the alleged participation in the June 2010 events in Southern Kyrgyzstan. He is charged with human abduction.

The main directorate of the Kyrgyz interior ministry for Osh and Osh Region circulated information with details of Ismailov’s arrest: “Police officers implemented rapid investigative measures, which resulted in identifying that Avnar Makhmudov has gone missing during the mass disorders on 18-19 June 2010. Makhmudov was born in 1960 and was a resident at the following address: Imam Ata Street, 117, Sharq Village District, Karasu Rayon, Kyrgyzstan.

Makhamadsali, Ibaydillo, Ikram, Yakubjon, Pozil, Bokhodir and Kurbon [no surnames provided], who are local residents, have been arrested in connection with the crime. They forced Anvar Makhmudov into a red Daewoo Tico car and took him in unknown direction. A criminal investigation is launched based on the evidence and documents collected by the Osh Regional Prosecutor’s office; regional law enforcement agencies are engaged in Osh, Jalalabad, and Batken Regions.”

Fergana’s own source in the ministry of interior confirmed the allegations. According to the source, the criminal investigation into the alleged abduction of Makhmudov is only launched now because his widow returned from Uzbekistan only recently.

Fergana will report on the developments.
