Gulnara Karimova gets chance to improve from “the worst daughter”
Uznews.net – The president of the Human Rights Society of Uzbekistan (HRSU), Abdujalil Boymatov, has sent Gulnara Karimova a letter urging her to help to free the imprisoned human rights activist, Norboy Holjigitov, whose advanced diabetes led to his limbs’ gangrene.

Today HRSU President Abdujalil Boymatov sent a letter to the Uzbek envoy to the UN Gulnara Karimova in Geneva, requesting for her urgent involvement in releasing the imprisoned human rights activist, Norboy Holjigitov, who is suffering from a severe form of pancreatic diabetes.

“I am appealing to you as a young politician and the Uzbek ambassador in the UNO, hoping to find the kind heart of a woman and a human-being in you.

I am asking you to help urgently to free the ill and old man, Norboy Holjigitov, a member of the HRSU in Ishtihan District of Samarkand Region, from the 64/49 prison in Karshi.

The 61-year-old Norboy has remained imprisoned for four years with his pancreatic diabetes, a serious illness requiring constant insulin therapy. In 2005, he was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment by a fabricated court decision.

Norboy’s health is in a grave condition: because of a constant high blood sugar level, his left leg and hand are paralyzed, with his toes, fingers and a part of his face growing dark. It is most likely that this

is a sign of incipient gangrene.

If you have a chance to help this man, please help him to live out his days with his family in his house,” says the letter.

Boymatov also reminded Karimova that her reputation is far from being the best in the world: On 4 August, the Foreign Policy magazine called her “the worst daughter in the world”, rating her first among five children of the most odious dictators and corrupt world leaders.

According to the ratings by the US-based internet magazine Foreign Policy, a subdivision of Washington Post and Newsweek, Gulnara Karimova tops the list of “the worst daughters in the world”. In addition to her, the list also includes a daughter of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, a daughter of Burma’s president, Gen Ne Win, a daughter of former Thai Prim Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and a daughter of former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo.

HRSU President Boymatov believes that Gulnara Karimova as a young politician still can change to the better and her assistance in freeing the old and very ill person would help her to improve her image.

“Your help to release urgently the ill person from imprisonment could start changing your image in your native country and all over the world.

You are a young woman and a mother, and you still have time and every chance to quit being regarded as `the worst daughter’ and improve your rating in the eyes of millions of your countrymen and people of free will all over the world,” Boymatov writes to President Karimov’s daughter.

In an interview with Uznews.net, Boymatov voiced his hope that his appeal could help to release Holjigitov though he was not creating illusions with regard to Gulnara Karimova’s holiness.

“The man is almost dying, he is already suffering from gangrene, and we must search for ways to release him. This cannot be done without the Uzbek authorities’ involvement because they have the key to his ward,” said Boymatov.
